Some facts about Chile for Spanish students

If you’re about to embark on a journey to take Spanish courses in Chile, make sure to do some research about the country to get a good background. The official name of the country is Republic of Chile. Its capital is the city of Santiago. Chile is 756,950 sq km large and has a population: of 16.6 million people. In terms of its ethnicity and racial composition, 95% are mestizo, 3% are Native American, 2% are of European origin. Spanish is of course the official language, but there are other dialects spoken in Chile too, including Amerindian dialects, Aymara, Mapuche, and Rapa Nui. The country is predominantly Catholic, with 70% of Chileans belonging to the Catholic Church. 15.1% are evangelicals and 1.1% are Jehovah’s Witnesses.
