My computer is taking 20 minutes to boot up. Whats wrong with it?
Can it also be fixed without having to take it to a shop or pay for really expensive programs?
Also, another symptom is that my programs take 5 minutes to boot up (iTunes is one)
Sounds like excessive programs starting when windows starts
Try this
Start>run>type msconfig and hit enter
click on the boot tab and uncheck any programs you don’t need to start when you boot up.
Regarding your program taking a while to start, try defragging the hard drive
start>my computer>right click drive>properties>Tools>Disk Defragmentor, (May take a while to run)

It is so hilarious that you say that today.
I had the same problem today. It took me over 20 minutes at the "logging" screen. I thought something was seriously wrong with my computer.
Talking to my peers, I find out they had the same problem. Now you.
Here’s my guess. With the President event today, the internet backbone was just bogged down with so many companies and affiliates using the internet to broadcast the President via webcast.
I noticed that after the event, my computer is back to normal.

Could be several things, but I expect it’s that your comp. is loaded with spyware and viruses.
Do you have a current anti-virus program running?
Get a copy of Ad-Aware and SpyBot and run both. They each pick up things the other doesn’t.
Other things to check – How much memory do you have? You should have at least 2Gb if you are running Windows XP.
When was the last time you rebuilt your computer? It’s a good idea to reformat/reload every year or so.
How old is your computer? You can get a new cone that will run circles around your old boat anchor for $500!
