How can I make some of my Joomla website URLs password protected without someone being a "member"?

I have used an outside source (website) that lets me type in the particular url I wanted password protected but with joomla it does not work unless someone is a member of my page. When I disable the page the site module works only for a couple of minutes and goes away so I cannot show an exclusive URL to someone. I also cannot preview a different template other than default when page is disabled what can I do?

If the person doesn’t know the login and password, how will they log in? (Anyone who types in the valid login and the valid password is – as far as the program is concerned – that member.)

I’m not quite sure, as I have no experience with Joomla(?).

But, from my experience as a Webs.com user, you need to sign up for premium.

    Sorry!
