Why is Villaraigosa showing up behind Obama in press conferences?

Posted on July 26th, 2010 by admin in conferences | 4 Comments »

Do you know why is Villar (aka Mayor Reconquista) appears behind Obama in press conferences?
There aren’t enough problems to solve here in Los Angeles such as cutting down on illegal immigration and gangs?

He’s only had one press conference.

Stop whining.

Can you identify trade shows and/or conferences attended by architectural and engineering firms in the US?

Posted on July 23rd, 2010 by admin in conferences | 2 Comments »

I’m a technology guy who has a software product that I think folks in the architectural drafting/landscape architecture/engineering industry would find very useful. As such, I’m trying to find out opportunities to go meet as many of these professionals as possible. So, I was wondering if anybody knew of annual trade shows/trade groups or conferences in the US where we should be attending? Thanks!

The American Society of Civil Engineers has branches in every state that will have state meetings, and there’s national conferences as well. http://www.asce.org. Then there’s the Institute of Transportation Engineers; their national conference already happened this year, but there’s district & state conferences too; for instance, in Portsmouth, Virginia next year the Southern District (http://www.sdite.org) will meet. That’s http://www.ite.org.

Then, every January, there’s the Transportation Research Board meeting in DC. Now, it’s more heavily slanted towards academics than practicing engineers, but it would also include landscape architects instead of just engineers. http://www.trb.org

How can I be informed on coming conferences in Europe?

Posted on July 21st, 2010 by admin in conferences | 1 Comment »

I want to know about all national and international events(seminars, conferences and ..) that are coming in Europe especially in Sweden, Hungry,Denmark. if u know a good website that covers all these say to me.

There is no site that gives this information (I have tried in the past to find medical conferences). The best way is to look up major conference centers located in each country and check the calendar of events for each.

How many authors here have attended writing conferences?

Posted on July 18th, 2010 by admin in conferences | 2 Comments »

What do you think are the pros and cons of conferences and conventions for writers?

Which ones have you attended?

Did you learn anything or was it primarily for networking?

What was your most valuable experience at a conference? Or was it a complete waste of time?

I’ve been to RWA three times and hope to attend my first comic con this fall. I’m not sure what to expect from the comic con, though. Mostly, I’m going to look around and have fun. No professional aspirations for that one.

I’ve attended two writing conferences at a convention that was pretty near me but never really took off. (Poorly run by a guy who would promise attendees anything and deliver what he could.)

I didn’t really learn anything, but I did make some connections and buy some books, chatting with big-time authors as they autographed them. (Lawrence Block knew the Gaelic spelling of my real name!) I was a featured reader and had some seriously big-name people in my little audience. Luckily, I didn’t yet recognize them so I wasn’t any more nervous.

I got to meet several of the big names in one of my genres, including Block, Ann Perry (icy and superior), Harlen Coben (sweet, warm guy), Joan Hess ("under the weather" much of the time), Otto Penzler (who said *my* work was good!), and Jan Burke (who could totally be my girlfriend).

When/if I have a salable manuscript for that genre again, I’ll probably do BoucherCon. I’ve never attended a conference in the genre in which I do most of my current work.

ComicCon is probably loads of fun. Hoist a glass for us here, okay?

As a preschool teacher, I have anxiety during parent teacher conferences, how can I cut it?

Posted on July 15th, 2010 by admin in conferences | 7 Comments »

I have great confidence in my teaching abilities, but since I am new to this school (which requires greatness), I feel a little bit uneasy during parent teacher conferences. What can I do to cut the anxiety?

You and me both, there’s something quite scary about it, isn’t there?!

Know what you’re going to say about each child before you begin speaking to the parents/carer. I usually have a sticky note that I stick on the desk which is a general guideline of everything I need to tell the parents.
If the child is struggling developmentally, I do a photocopy of his/her report and circle in which areas, then I talk a bit to the parents about it and give them the photocopied report and ways they can promote development.

As for being nervous in front of them, there really isn’t much you can do. You don’t sound particularly low in confidence, just worried when you meet the parents, which is expected, after all, after the parents you’re one of their main carers.

People say to imagine them naked! Like you do at high-school when you have to give a talk in front of the class, personally I’d end up laughing, but you could give it a go!

Do any of the 32 NCAA Division I mens basketball conferences have games for free streaming online?

Posted on July 12th, 2010 by admin in conferences | 1 Comment »

Up until this year, I know the Horizon League had a website where you could stream games online for free. This now costs $4.99 per game. Also, the Big Ten has this online streaming capability, but it also costs money. Are there any college basketball conferences that still offer games available to be streamed online for free?

You don? have to miss another big game! If you?e looking for online sports entertainment with thousands of channels, you?e in luck.
