Would you consider another thought on Assisted Living that might work for us Senior Citizens?

Please comment – I received this from a dear friend today – I like the concept very much…

Food for thought:

Let’s put the seniors in jail, and the criminals in nursing homes.

This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies, and walks.

They’d receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment , wheelchairs,
etc.

And they’d receive money instead of paying it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly if they fell
or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to
them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes, and bring their meals and snacks to their
cell.

They could have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.

They could have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counseling, pool, and
education.

Simple clothing , shoes, slippers, P.J.’s and legal aid would be free, on request.

Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard — with gardens.

Each senior could have a personal computer, TV, radio, and daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code
of conduct, that would be strictly adhered to.

The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone, and unsupervised.

Lights off at 8 p.m., and showers once a week.

Live in a tiny room , and pay $4,500.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out.

Check with me later for my new prison address.
I would guess that the point of this old joke is not to be taken literally but the comparison in many areas in our country of the amount of budget expended on criminal housing & adequacy vs housing & care for the Aged. The workhouses of prison are not – the high security prisons are air-condition, properly staffed, medically attended. Few indigent Aged will be afforded the compassionate attn that would be proper – even at a lower cost.. We tend to be much more benevolent towards criminals – even excessively.

Thanks, you really have made my day – you do have some good ideas written in your question. I think a lot of seniors would go for it. ha ha. And I am just a member of a senior community reading for enjoyment on this site. Have a great day and keep your ideas coming. I enjoyed this one so much.

Good point and I see what you are saying but in reality, the only prisons like the ones you mentioned are the Federal prisons that house the elite offenders.
Most jails are filthy, prisoners are not monitored as they should be, the food is bad, guards incite trouble, and most don’t give a darn if anyone is safe.
I am not defending crooks, but I am defending the mentally ill prisoner, the weak prisoner or the few that are innocent and put there unjustly.
You mentioned before that you are a reserve officer and I have noticed some one sightedness. I have seen your side too but I still can look at it from a clear point of view and have seen and heard some horrible things done by the "good guys".

Pick me up on your way over, will you? Do we have to break any windows or anything to get in there? I’ll drive the getaway car since I am a hot rodder, but I will slow it down so we will be caught. ;)

Sad to think this is actually true. I wonder how many seniors have compacted a crime in order to be sent to a place of enbodiment with all these comodes formulated? I do deject the once a week shower. Perhaps there could be some compostition for those that prefer daily humidification. (I’ve got Norm Cosby syndrome this morning.)

Put me down on the list. I like to plan ahead.

One of the greatest assets that we have in this country is shoved under the rug.
All those years of knowledge is wasted which says a lot about all of us as a nation.
Hire the youth because they are not as much as a health risk and we can pay them less. Then we suffer the mistakes that are made.

Nope, wouldn’t consider it. I’ve been in jail too many times just overnight and for a few days at a time to even consider such a thing. Give me my freedom, and being nannied be hanged. I’ll take my chances in the breath of freedom. Let the cowards languish in the safety of their self imposed hell.

Dear Conan’s Owner, you are definitely a bright light around here. I always enjoy your questions and responses. But this time I must differ with you a bit. About ten years ago I got a job teaching reading to inmates at a state prison in Florida. Yes, the Florida system was the setting for Paul Newman’s famous prison picture (which I can’t think of the name of…duh.) I can say, today’s Florida prison system is just as horrendous as the one in which Newman was suffering (for the cameras only, of course.) Most of my students were very much like my kids (who also were in their late teens or early 20s.) Except these guys got caught doing dumb stuff whereas mine didn’t have to face anything worse than me — for doing dumb stuff. My observation was that this prison was about as close to Hell as one could get in this life. It is NOT nice with medical, dental, etc. If a convict has teeth trouble, the tooth is pulled. If a guard wants to have some fun with a prisoner — bullying, beating, etc. — no problem. One prisoner was KICKED to death by five guards. Yes, the guards went to trial — and allw were acquitted.

Our prisons are a sad and terrifying story. They are like the Nazi death camps for Jews and minorities in that the general public knows they are there, but the general public would be horrified out of its collective mind if it knew what they were really like.

My niece sent this to me also. I have never seen the inside of a prison, but I would much rather live in a house with a bunch of Senior Citizens where everyone shared in the upkeep as long as they were able, something like The Golden Girls. It would be great if everyone chipped in their SS check and made it a really nice place to live.
