what is the circle on top of the organ in the LDS Conference center?

Posted on May 30th, 2010 by admin in conference centers | 3 Comments »

It looks like the lighting changes on it as conference progresses. Anyone know anything about it?

When I went on a tour of the conference center a few years ago the sister giving the tour said it was some object that they just painted gold. I can’t remember what it was exactly but I remembered being surprised that it was such a common object that they just painted and hung up there. If I remember I’ll post again but now it’s going to eat at me that I can’t remember!!

What shouldn’t the board of directors of a nonprofit know? If the whole board doesn’t know it, who should?

Posted on May 30th, 2010 by admin in board of directors minutes | 1 Comment »

I know that the board should have:
-Articles of Incorporation
-Bylaws
-List of Corporate Members titles, duties, roles and responsibilities
-List of Board Member Qualifications duties, roles and responsibilities
-Membership letter saying they are a board member
-Financial reports of what is in the bank account
-Access to minutes book
-Copies of all organizational policies
-Receipts for personal donations

But Should all of the board members have the:
-Tax ID #
-Dun and Bradstreet# (business credit report info)
-EIN #
-CCR information (government grants and contractor database info)
-Non-Profit Tax Exemption Status #
-The Bank Account Numbers
-Should they know what other board members have donated or just what they (themselves) have donated?

Should the whole board have this information or just the treasurer, Executive Director or Business Manager?

What shouldn’t the Board of Directors know?? What information is to much information?

Thanks in advance

You are asking the board of director’s to guide the decision of the foundation. They need to know everything which may be relevant to their decisions. For example, how much each has donated is probably a private matter and they should not be listed as individuals. However, total donations is going to be a number that they need to have.

Who moves for the acceptance of the previous Board meeting minutes?

Not me there are some items on that agenda that I highly disapprove of.

Is there a proper way to format minutes for a meeting? If so, what is it?

Ask around to see if there is a preferred presentation for minutes at your place of work, and ask your boss how she prefers for minutes to be written up.

Make sure you list:
date of meeting,
attendees,
provide a list of issues discussed,
list of assignments from meeting,
date of next meeting if it has been decided or will be before your minutes are distributed.

I also find it helpful to have at least one fellow meeting attendee whose opinion I value review the minutes before I distribute them.

Make sure that you keep in mind the audience for the minutes. I have run meetings where the meeting attendees refused to tolerate minutes where decisions were written down. Opposing sides both wanted the right to revisit issues that had been decided, these meetings were hell, but management refused to step in and resolve the problem. Unless you have management support you have to be diplomatic.

Stay away from Roberts’ Rules unless you have to use them for legal purposes. While many claim to understand them, very few actually do. They are archaic and often cause more problems than they solve. I have seem people spend more time arguing about what is proper under Roberts’ Rules than the meeting should have actually taken. They also make people uneasy, while they won’t admit a lack of working knowledge most people are aware of their short coming.

If you can swing it try to get your employer to pay for you to take a facilitation course, the one offered by the American Managment Association is excellent.

Microsoft Outlook-can you print a report for conference room hours used in this program?

Posted on May 30th, 2010 by admin in conference room | 1 Comment »

I need to figure out the hours that each conference room was used for the month of November. I have each building’s conference rooms set up as a Group Schedule and was wondering if there was some type of report or something in this program that would just calculate the hours booked for each room and print it out! Can anyone give me any ideas besides doing it on my own? (I’ve already been doing it on my own for months now, just trying to find a way to be lazy!)

Access Google’s free spread sheet program and transfer the data from outlook, try copy and paste then maintain the spread sheet.

What college football conference will be the one to watch next season?

Posted on May 30th, 2010 by admin in conference | 10 Comments »

In your opinion which conference will have the most great teams? Biggest rivalries? Hardest hitting? Players to watch?

Most likely the SEC. Although the Pac-10 and the ACC should also have good seasons. A conference outside of the main 6 to watch will be the Mountain West Conference. BYU, TCU, and Utah will all be good next year.

I am a young writer, and I’d like to surround myself with other writers my age. I’m sixteen, and I live in SW Florida, so please give me some websites about workshops and/or conferences near this area.

Try a few of these (found on ask.com). Some dates have passed but contact the site/address for more info.
